The University of Wisconsin–Madison Laboratory of Genetics is pleased to welcome Dr. Jason Peters as a new Associate Professor of Medical Genetics. Dr. Peters joins both the Laboratory of Genetics and the Center for Genomic Science Innovation (CGSI), where his research and collaborative spirit will contribute to advancing discoveries at in the field.
In the Peters Lab, researchers develop systematic genetic approaches to address critical challenges in the bioeconomy and antimicrobial resistance. His recent work revealed a key role for genetic context in identifying effective therapeutic targets across different bacterial species. This research highlights the importance of understanding how genes interact within broader biological systems, an area that aligns closely with ongoing work at UW-Madison.
“I’m excited to join LOG and CGSI with other researchers who deeply understand and appreciate genetic context and can help us take our work to the next level,” said Dr. Peters. He is particularly enthusiastic about new collaborative opportunities, including work with CGSI Director Audrey Gasch to explore how artificial intelligence and machine learning analysis can uncover new therapeutic and engineering targets in microbial systems.
We are thrilled to have Dr. Peters join our community and are eager to see his work continue to grow at UW-Madison.
